In attempting to understand the long-lasting and substantial interest in the Me 163, the authors have been confronted with the question of what it is, precisely, that generates this interest. They have come to the conclusion that it is partly the psychological impact the Me 163 had on the Allied pilots who first encountered the aircraft in combat (it was unexpected, it was fast, it was a difficult target to destroy-all factors on which to base a good story) and partly the fascination of advanced technology.
