Abstract : Many methods are used in the market for managing congestion including re-dispatching and preventive power flow planning. In this study, congestion is proposed to be managed by integrating the wind generation in the transmission network. Wind turbines are optimally allocated and sized using the probabilistic optimal power flow, which uses Newton-Raphson as the power flow solution method and PSO as the optimization method. The probabilistic behavior of the wind generation and consuming loads is considered in this study. This study details the procedure to manage congestion in the transmission network by considering one and two wind generation locations, whose results are compared with the re-dispatching and transmission expansion congestion methods with respect to the congestion values, generation costs, greenhouse emissions and the transmission lines losses.
