Abstract
:
The transition from communism to democracy in post-conflict Turkmenistan has been challenging. After almost two decades, democracy in Turkmenistan remains uncertain and slow, as evidenced by various international watchers. Some reasons hindering the progress of democratization in Turkmenistan include internal problems and external problems. Experiences of the other post-communist countries also illustrate that it is very difficult to consolidate democracy in post-conflict societies due to internal strife, weak state institutions, historically difficult political transitions, and lack of political legitimacy.
