Abstract	:	This study investigates the importance of the Afghan Women’s Writing Project (AWWP) in helping Afghan women gain high level literacy skills. Their skills are developed through their participation in the AWWP which enables them to move into the workforce of their country independently and gain important leadership positions, such as seats in the Afghan Parliament. This study discusses how these women in leadership positions can inspire further change for women’s rights in their country. For many years, women in Afghanistan have faced obstacles is obtaining an education, have been denied the skills needed to read and write, and have been restricted from participation in the governance of their country. They have faced a great amount of oppression in a country where fundamentalist Muslims see women as holding value in being obedient wives and caretakers of households. Through the creative writing that Afghan women produce in the AWWP, they are able to share their stories while also receiving an education. In conclusion, this study argues that the AWWP will help make Afghanistan a strong state in years to come and urges for the project to be supported on a world-wide level.
