Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the need to understand how a Muslim background believer in Jesus (MBB) can remain in his social base as an active, influential and redemptive member of his or her community, while being a known follower of Jesus and one devoted to the truth of the Bible. In order for an MBB to remain in strategic position to make disciples, I propose that the MBB must honor the tribe, the family, the culture and the faith of his or her community while strategically developing a clear identity, not as a follower of Mohammad or a believer in the truth of the Quran, but as a follower of Jesus and believer in the truth of the Bible. Unfortunately, the new MBB is in danger of experiencing self-inflicted alienation from the tribe, rejection by the tribe or over-contextualization of the MBB’s Christian faith. This project explores the story of a notable exemplar who has returned to his community as a beloved member of his family, not as a secret Christian, nor as a highly contextualized or synchronized Christian, but as a known follower of Jesus.
