Abstract
:
Contact angle hysteresis used to characterize a surface as hysteresis is a phenomenon caused by local surface defects. A surface of silicon coated with Silane is prepared using Self Assembled Monolayer technique. A set of experiments has designed and performed on Centrifugal Adhesion Balance using silicon substrate coated with Silane to investigate contact angle hysteresis for pendant drops. Experiments are performed with zero lateral force which gives the advantage of decoupling of normal force and to observe variation of contact angle and contact diameter under the influence of varying normal adhesion force. Experiment is performed at an acceleration of 3 rpm/sec to minimize vibrations caused by motor. Normal force is gradually increased to the value at which liquid drop is about to fly and then reduced to its initial value by decreasing motor rpm gradually.
