Abstract
:
Disempowerment leads to many problems in women’s lives. These problems can be psychologically impactful both on personal and social levels. Having positive and strong role models is linked to women’s empowerment and, thus, the improvement of their quality of life. Muslim women are dis-empowered in many areas in life. Muslim women also seem to lack having culturally appropriate role models. They are exposed to role models that are either westernized and lacking the values toward which the Muslim population is inclined or too traditional and lacking the perspectives ideal for Muslim women dealing with the modern world. The purpose of this study was to identify if Muslim Sacred Women as culturally appropriate role models can be associated with Muslim women’s empowerment. The results indicated that there were no significant associations between the proposed Role Models and Muslim women’s empowerment. The possible explanations of the results of the study were discussed and due to the inconclusive nature of the explanations, further research is recommended.
