This Grounded Theory study explores the lived experiences of 7 gay men in the Iranian-American community and their movement through the coming out process (COP). Topics related to their journey through this sexual identity formation process include self-acceptance, mental health, familial and societal support/rejection, and the process of coming out as conceptualized by a model that emerged from the data. As data were coded an analyzed, themes and sub themes were abstracted, leading to the development of a new model, which incorporates the Cass Theory.
