Abstract	:	Ramon Lull, one of the most controversial personalities of the Middle Ages, was a native of Ciutat de Mallorques, which in the 13th century was "the most nearly Moslem of Christian cities". His childhood and youth spent in this Muslim milieu influenced thoroughly his mind and object of life. This paper is concerned with his relation to Islam which only in the last few years attracted the interest of a few scholars. The paper tries to go beyond the generalities formulated hitherto, analyzing briefly some basic problems, e.g. his knowledge of Arabic (he was the only Christian scholar, who wrote, for the sake of his missionary activity, some of his first and last important works in Arabic); the relationship between the Libre del gentil arabico and Ghazāli's Maqāsid alfalāsifa; the possibility of an influence exerted by this great Muslim scholar on his symbolic logic; the problem of an impact of Islamic mysticism on his Libre d'amic at amat and his Cents Noms de Deu; the relationship between his Libre de les bestiès and Kalīla wa-Dimna, and last but not least to clarify whether his unique oeuvre and missionary activity reflect the spirit of Crusades, or should that be related to Catalan-Aragonian historical context deep-rooted in its Islamic legacy.
