Aḥmad b. Yaḥyā, Ḥamīd al-Dīn (d. 1962) was the eldest son of Imām al-Mutawakkil Yaḥyā (c. 1869–1948) and the last de facto imām and king of Yemen (r. 1948–62). Aḥmad was learned, having received a traditional religious education, and was noted for his oratory and physical presence. He was declared crown prince in 1924—one of the first acts foreshadowing the change of the Zaydī imāmate into a kingdom and a modern nation-state.
