Abstract	:	This report provides an historical background of the presence and management of wild pigs in California, including their introduction and range expansion, classification as game animals in 1957, and current presence within counties in the state. History of depredation permits issued by the California Department of Fish & Game is provided, as well as number of animals taken under permit and the types of damage incurred by permit applicants. A strategic plan for wild pig management, as required by state legislation, for the period 1995-2000 is described and discussed.
