Abstract : This book is designed to provide the increasing number of students, on the developing programme that is Education Studies, with a text that provides a clear overview of the key issues they will encounter within the first year. It will enable students to develop a detailed understanding of the key issues within Education Studies and aid them in developing the critical skills they require through the concept of 'stop, think and do' boxes together with links to key readings. In addition each chapter will include a summary box detailing the key issues contained within the chapter. The issues are presented in four main section areas to aid the student in making connections between those issues. The book will also act as a precursor to the existing volume "Education Studies: Issues and Critical Perspectives" allowing students to approach that volume with a good understanding of the key issues relevant to Education Studies. The main objectives of the book are: to provide a key text for Education Studies courses in the UK; to provide new students with a detailed overview of the key issues within Education Studies; to provide them with intellectual tools necessary for degree level study through 'stop, think and do' boxes; to provide a summary of the key issues contained within each chapter to enable students to reflect on the issues they have encountered; to act as a precursor to the existing volume "Education Studies: Issues and Critical Perspectives"; and, to extend the understanding of educational issues beyond schools to other phases of educational provision.
