Starting with Hegel's thoughts on hierarchical relations, Taylor (English, Loughborough U., Britain) explores literary representations of master-slave and master-servant relationships in works by Thomas Carlyle and others. He takes such relationships by type: violent, intellectual, combined, music, and popular.
