Abstract : This book is a comprehensive reference guide to the economically and ecologically important tarpon and bonefish species. It combines an overview of the world tarpon and bonefish fisheries including their dynamics and status, a classical systematics approach to explore relationships between Elopomorpha genera, and modern molecular approaches to investigate intra- and inter-coastal differences in genetic structure throughout the oceans. Chapters cover aspects of tarpon and bonefish life history, age and growth, behavior, physiology, genetics, reproduction and recruitment, movements and migrations, fishing and fishery exploitation, habitat-animal relationships, mariculture and stock enhancement, ecosystem management, and fishery management experiences from various areas of the world.
