Abstract : "Bruce Cameron's story is a rare look at an insider's efforts for a path of peace in Central America, reforming the Nicaraguan contras (revolucionarios) who were fighting the Sandinistas, all the while staying sane and not losing sight of key values." "Cameron's narrative begins in 1982 when he visits Managua, Nicaragua, with Representative, now Senator Tom Harkin (Iowa). Although a human rights pioneer, he nonetheless moved closer and closer to what he calls the liberal contra. In 1985 Cameron found himself switching sides from liberal to conservative, at least temporarily." "Cameron takes you inside meetings where policy was formulated to ensure votes or obtain leverage. Many of these meetings included Ollie North, Elliott Abrams, and a representative of the CIA." "People whose paths crossed Cameron's are names familiar to those who recall "Iran Contra." They include Ollie North, Tom Harkin, Arturo Cruz, Daniel Ortega, Jim Wright Jr., Dave McCurdy, and Richard Secord."--BOOK JACKET.
