Provides principles and applications for a full array of the procedures now carried out with laparaosocpy, including inguinal hernias, appendectormy, colorectal surgery, splenecomy, esophagectomy, and obesity surgery. Initial chapters provide detailed guidelines for the history of the procedure, patient selection and preparation, anesthesia, hand- assisted approach, suture and knot tying, and ultrasonography, among other topics. The text has been extensively revised to reflect new technologies and procedures such as gastric bypass, adjustable band, ventral hernia repair, robotic surgery and the use of videotrainers, simulators, virtual reality, and teleproctoring for training.
